A WHALE OF A TALE
Look at the lovely 12 pound, 3 foot long salmon caught off the Quay in Thomastown a few days back! The fisherman's name is withheld so you don't all show up on his doorstep at dinner time!

Thomastown - Veg Out!
Have you noticed the vegetables sneaking into the planted areas of Thomastown this year? This is to celebrate Thomastown's win as 'The Town of Foods' 2013. The idea was also inspired by the Yorkshire town of Todmorden where they have implemented 'Incredible Edible' concept which involves the planting of food crops at forty locations throughout the village.
Broccoli, brusselsprouts, kohlrabi and an assortment of herbs line the beds next to the

Wildflower Meadow
Thomastown Tidy Towns Wildflower Meadow
Have you noticed an area of developing wilderness down by the quay in Thomastown, are you curious to know what’s happening?
As part of Tidy Towns commitment to enhancing the biodiversity of the town, we have designated this area as a wildflower meadow. A management plan has been established that will allow for the broadest range of wildflowers to grow, this will in turn provide food and habitat to a greater diversity of bees, butterflies and other insects. These are vital for pollination of both flowers and food crops. This insect life also provides a food source for birds and other wildlife.
In May of this year we carried out a spring flower survey and idenitfied over 20 flowering plants. We plan to follow this up with another survey in early July to idenitfy the summer flowering plants. If you have knowledge of our native wildflowers and could lend us your expertise we would be very grateful, just contact any member of the Tidy Towns committee or email us at thomastowntidytowns@gmail.com
Perhaps next time your walking or driving along the Quay have a look at our developing wildflower meadow. If you have a question or spot an interesting flower send a photo to our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Thomastown-Tidy-Towns-Committee/208962152462670
